Walt Disney World Resort Shares New Details on Renovations at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., May 15, 2014 – Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is undergoing a complete re-imagining and today new plans were unveiled for one of Walt Disney World Resort’s two original resort hotels.
The Nanea Volcano feature pool area is being completely renovated, with plans for a new children’s water play area, an enlarged deck to accommodate poolside seating for hundreds of guests and a hot tub with expansive views of Seven Seas Lagoon.
Near the feature pool area, a new food & beverage experience that will be available to our guests is a Pineapple Lanai kiosk, featuring the world-famous Dole Whip.
And finally, an all-new children’s activity center for guests, rebranded as Club Disney, is now taking reservations for next month’s opening at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.
“In size and scope the renovation and expansion of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a significant investment in the guest experience at Walt Disney World Resort,” said Tom Wolber, senior vice president of resort operations and transportation operations for Walt Disney World Resort. “Once completed, the iconic resort hotel will be completely re-imagined with a level of detail as only Disney can deliver.”
Today’s update follows recent news that in 2015 Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto will open. The menu, décor and ambiance at the Disneyland-inspired guest favorite continues the evolution of food and beverage offerings across Disney’s parks and resorts. Trader Sam’s will feature a highly themed lounge area, with handcrafted tiki cocktails served in souvenir mugs that will complement Polynesian-themed small plates. Trader Sam’s is part of a major renovation of the Great Ceremonial House.
Also, Disney Vacation Club recently announced that it proposes to include 20 bungalows as part of the planned resort. Construction on the resort has begun and is estimated to be complete in 2015.
Once the entire project is completed in 2015, more than 1,200 construction and other skilled laborers will have worked on the completely re-imagined resort hotel.
