Students prepare for the future at the Central Florida Urban League’s Youth Leadership Summit
Over 150 students from the Central Florida region gathered at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on Saturday May 9th, 2014 to attend workshops centered on professional and personal development. Designed to help students prepare for the future, sessions focused on college readiness, careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), healthy living, and animal conservation.
Disney’s Animal Science & Environment team participated in this effort, teaching students about the importance of creativity and problem solving skills in scientific research. Students worked together in groups to design a tracking device for an animal based on the animal’s physical characteristics and behavior. They also learned why researchers track animals and how they themselves can help protect wildlife and wild places.
